MRSA

MRSA is back, I hope this continues to be a rare incidence, we haven't had MRSA for awhile. I tried thieves oil on it but it didn't seem to work. I still haven't found the right remedy for it as MRSA took a back seat to Autism diagnosis for my son. I believe MRSA infections have caused my son to become autistic due to the antibiotics causing issues with his gut and brain.
Right now we are treating it with septra. Not much else we can do. Sigh.

So MRSA has decided to drop by for a visit.

I am not sure how long it has been since MRSA has popped up on my son me and my husband but it definitely has lessened, if only it would just go away for good.
So two weeks ago my son got a fever, it went away but he got a really phlegmy cough and it hasn't let up.
He had a shot of rosephin but it did not clear anything, not even his double ear infection.
So now he is on septra for both the MRSA and the ear infections.
He seems to be doing better.
I scrubbed the MRSA boil with hibiclens and hopefully that clears it up.
I have not yet discovered any natural remedy for MRSA yet.

It's been a week over 4 months since my last post.

Wow, what a record! Four months without one single MRSA bump. I was beginning to think we got over it. I was getting used to NOT having MRSA around not worrying about looking for bumps on my son. It felt so good to not worry and to not look for them. I was beginning to get cocky and think we were in the clear.
Well Friday morning about 5AM my son is still awake, playing with his Ipad with  no shirt on and I see this ugly red "bite" on his side. I totally thought it was a bite because we have spiders in and out of our bedroom all day so I was hoping against hope that it was a spider..the bump wasn't there in the morning and it already had a head less than 12 hours later since I had last seen that he didn't have a bump.
So I immediately put him in a bath and soaked it, rubbed it til it popped in the warm water and then added mupirocin to the open wound. I assumed it would dry up and go away like they usually do but this morning I had to take him to urgent care because it looks so angry and red.
The urgent care doctor told me we did a good job and to leave it alone unless it look bigger.
Well it does to me so I have just sent my husband to the pharmacy at 6AM to get his Septra prescription filled.

I am not messing around with MRSA, Ever. I have seen some people with some pretty bad infections that were not treated properly or quick enough. My boy is 3, has autism and is non verbal so this is even worse as he cannot tell me what's wrong.
When I touch the wound its very tender and he cries so I am assuming it causes him a great deal of pain.

It's the size of a bean and poking out and as hard as a rock.
The doctor told us if there was puss inside it would be soft in the middle. Kind of like a pit. So hard around the edges and soft in the middle.
It doesn't seem to be that way but I am no expert so I am taking the safe route and starting antibiotics for him.
(Edit! IT GOT WAY WORSE. Looks like pics below now)
I really hope this was a fluke in his immune system and we will go back to being on track like we were before this weekend.

I did notice once he got the bump that he seemed to be full of allergies, not sleeping well and had been cranky. Hopefully this is a growth spurt or a fluke in his immune system and he will go back to normal soon.
Its so frustrating to come from 4 months of no infections and right back to the way it was.
Please go away for good MRSA, I hate you.

I thought I would never make a 30th post...

But here I am.
Its been quite some time since Elliot or any of us have gotten a serious boil.
We have had a few little pimples that go quickly but nothing big. Until this week.
My little one started getting very congested and I assumed it was allergies so we treated it with claritin and hoped it went away, which it didn't.
A few days later we take my son out to the trampoline and while he is jumping I notice a bump on his leg.
I immediately knew it was MRSA so I quickly take hims side and start scrubbing.
By the time I saw it it already was a pimple and well developed. It still bogs my mind as to how I did not see it before.
It popped, got hard and that's when I knew a trip to the doctor was in order because we had no antibiotics. By God I wish we did.
Fast forward to the today, the wound was so angry, red and huge.
When we took him to the doctor she said his throat was red. Which means he has a sore throat. Why is it that every time he is sick he gets MRSA? It's mind boggling.

about an hour ago I noticed it had a head again so I took him to the bath and scrubbed it. It popped again and lots of puss came out. I was shocked. My little trooper only whined, did not cry. He is so strong.
I hope all the puss came out.
I took him out the bath and put mupirocin on it.
The sad thing is I do not have a routine, I do not have a plan or a cure to help him when he gets these. I have all but given up as there just isn't enough information or resources or help out there for a child or even an adult with MRSA.
I wish there was a cure or vaccine because I would surely give it to him in a second.
Fuck MRSA.

It's been a long time. Not long enough.

It's been a few months since my son Elliot has had MRSA so I was hopefully we had finally gotten rid of it. Boy was I wrong.
Elliot came down with a cold, a vicious horrible strain that I have never seen before. He wouldn't eat, sleep or drink anything. He cried all day and doesn't want to be put down. It is driving me and his father bananas.
I am functioning on 4 hours of sleep in the last two days.
Anyway, right smack dab in the middle of his vicious cold he gets a MRSA boil in the middle of his chest.
Are you serious? Why there? I was so shocked when I saw that.I really don't understand how this crap works.

To make matters even worse he started to get a swollen eye. Again.

Holy shit warning bells went off in my head when is saw that and all the memories of the hospitalization and the struggle we went through just makes me want to puke.. I am so nervous and so nauseous. I have been sitting here feeling like I am going to have a panic attack or something. I am so worried about how he's going to act when he wakes up because lately he's been waking up screaming & crying and I can't calm him down. He's never happy anymore. I feel like I am in the twilight zone and I don't know when this will end. I haven't been this scared in a long time.

We took him to the doctor and he gave him eye drops and septra, I told him about Elliot being super fussy but he didn't say much and told me to call his office tomorrow if things worsen.
If anyones reading this, I am so exhausted.
I hated MRSA.

I wish I knew where it ends.

Elliot, my 2 year old son got sick on Thursday, started vomiting and having diarrhea. On monday he still has the stomach flu and a MRSA boil popped up on his thigh. I don't get it.
I don't understand how he keeps getting this when we treat it and we try to prevent it.
I am even more worried how his stomach will handle the medicine when he already has the stomach flu.

October is MRSA Awareness month.

I had no idea that OCT is MRSA awareness month, and the 2nd of OCT is World MRSA Day. The ribbon for MRSA is teal.
I want one, I know so many survivors of MRSA and even people dealing with it right this moment. I wish I could create a kind of organization that takes donations/buys bandages, bandaids, medicines/antibiotics and cremes- basically all the necessities that you need to treat MRSA and raise prevention awareness, but I have no idea how to do that.
I suppose I'll figure it out, its a great idea if you ask me.

The hole in my side.

The urgent care doctor told me over the weekend that my packing would "fall out" on its on by Sunday and it didn't so I got curious and pulled it out thinking it was a little piece which it was not. It was probably over an inch long.
When I pulled it out I was quite shocked to discover I had a gaping hole in my side, deeper and bigger than I assumed it was.
You're gonna love this picture.

Upon looking at this picture closely you can see into my side, looks decently deep and can also see the fat deep in there. This is why MRSA is not something to mess with or take lightly. I'm currently having a hard time grasping the fact that I have a hard, gaping hole in my side and it looks like an eye socket.

Well hopefully this thing will heal quickly and I won't ever get another one like this again, but I'm not holding my breath. This was definitely a wake up call for me.

Hard as a rock/ Clindamycin.

This is it today.

If you have ever had MRSA you know that once the infection gets going and blood cells start to fight back that the wound will harden and burrow deep into tissue/fat/whatever. Well mine is as hard as a rock. I never know that a body part can get that hard until I came in contact with MRSA. If you have an infection and its very hard and not responding to antibiotics its a tell-tell sign of MRSA. Also keep in mind if you have ever came in contact with MRSA and developed another bite like bump 90% percent of the time it will be MRSA- This according to my PA that treated me.
So my advice to you all is if a bump develops don't wait to see if it's a bite! GO to the doctor and get antibiotics or treat it somehow or you'll be regretting it later.

As for the clindamycin, it causes diarrhea and I've had some tiredness and achyness but I am not sure what is causing that. I also have a broken toe and a feel a cold coming on so who knows what is what! I'm taking it 3x and so far only the diarrhea seems to be a major nuisance.

Ouch, My God!

So hello MRSA fellows,
I went back to the urgent care today thinking I was going to get another shot and go home and wait for this crap to pop.
Well, that did not happen. I went into the office and the PA came into my room and was so sweet and caring (again). She was concerned about it not having a head and asked me if I would like to have it lanced.
I told her yes immediately and her demeanor changed. She seemed happy and told me that she loves doing this sort of thing. Which I suppose was great for me!
So she prepped me and numbed my side with I believe 3 shots of lidocaine which hurt sooooo bad. I think she did a good job though because she pulled out a sterile scalpel and went to work. I felt NONE of it except her pushing the puss out with her hands. She is amazing. I love her for the help she has done for me.
After she pushed the puss out, she packed my wound with gauze and told me to come back tomorrow.

Came home, hurting and took some codeine which helped a little. I am glad that this was done to me and not my son. FUCK YOU MRSA.

Anyway, just a few minutes ago my son jumped on my side which made it bleed through so I decided to change the bandages.
This is what it looks like under there.
Honestly, have no idea if that red stuff is the meat under or more of the gauze. It looks like meat to me in the mirror but in picture it looks like gauze. So who knows.

Guess who has MRSA?

I do!
A couple days ago this thing popped up on my side after taking a nap on my bed. (I change my sheets everyday and was wearing clean clothes. WTF??

It's quite swollen so I circled it to see how much it will grow by the morning.
Its horribly painful and has not developed a head and I want it to because it fucking hurts and needs to pop already.
My sister's boyfriend had MRSA on his groin this week and he had to have it packed with cotton three times. I do not want that.
Anyway, I went to urgent care today and they perscribed clindomycin and bactroban, the usual stuff.  I was glad to get the Clindomycin. Also got a shot in my butt of Rocephin (sp?) and I have to go back tomorrow for another.
My blood pressure was super high as well so she wanted to get another reading and maybe prescribe medicine.
I wish the doctor would just cut this shit open. Hate MRSA.

MRSA is back, I was hoping it was gone for good.

Well my little one just had his 2nd birthday on October 3rd and we were very happy that he hasn't had any MRSA boils in a few months and I foolishly thought he was finally over this MRSA bullshit but I was wrong.
This morning while cuddling with him I noticed he has one on his thigh. I feel like this fight will never be over, in fact it probably won't ever end. He sees his new doctor on Tuesday. Maybe he can give us some insight on this or send us to a specialist or something, I just don't know. Anyway here's the new boil:

For anyone going through this, I am sorry. I hope you get better and never have to go through this again. I am so sick of it and I wish to God I knew how to get rid of it because the Lord knows I have tried everything. I am just going to give him antibiotics and wait until Tuesday to see his pediatrician. I have no special home remedies anymore. I am almost just hopeless and tired now.

Took my son to his new doctor.

He was nicer than I had expected him to be. Although he was nice and thorough he didn't give us any definite new help.
He told us about bleach baths, which we know.
He told us about hibiclens and mupirocin, which we know.
He told me something new though, that typical cases of CA (Community acquired) MRSA is typical seen in 6 months and then disappears, he said our case is "rare and unlucky" man does that suck?
He prescribed clindimycin to my son and sent us on our way.

It's been awhile.

It's been awhile since MRSA has made me really cry, I just changed my sons diaper to find a boil forming on his thigh. This isn't fair. I don't get it. I am doing everything I should. I have been to the doctors with no help, changed Elliot's doctor so tomorrow we're probably going to go see him. We'll see.
My poor baby. This is so fucked up.

MRSA is back, surprise surprise.

Well recently I have been very stressed, as well as my husband.
about 7/24 we found a MRSA boil on his elbow, went straight to doctors but the doctor didn't want to do anything for it.
Well its been a few weeks and another popped up on his leg and arm. Thats 3 in 3 weeks. We're back to square 1 again.
We took him to urgent care and they swabbed it but did not provide medicine.
They said they would call him in a few days with the results.
Today I was feeling under my arm and it seems I have some abscesses INSIDE my underarm. All hard.
Then I saw a boil. So I have one under my arm.
Life is going so shitty for us lately.
My grandmother passed away, my car has been out of commission for 2 months and I've been using a car with no A/C in 109+ Weather almost everyday. My poor son is cranky, teething, has allergies and is just always upset because the heat. I'm tired of it. I don't know when we'll get a break or if we will ever get a break but I  honestly feel like this is never ending.

Today I was sitting outside and my mom came up to me and started tearing out grey hair out of my head. She told me it was probably because of my stress with Elliot and with everything else.
Which is true. I've been very stressed with my son, my health (just got tested for diabetes and came out OK but I am pre-diabetic, also have high cholestrol & blood pressure)
Anyway, its just never ending.

MRSA medicine.

My husband finally got some medicine for his boils! So here's hoping that this will slow down or even eliminate the boils for good! I can dream right? He started his first dose and I'm excited about it.
So both husband and son are on septra and both are putting honey on their boils and hopefully this helps.

My son's boil actually popped today but it looks like has a bit of pus still. Hope it goes away. He even has another right under that one but its much less red and looks superficial. Just have to wait for the medicine to kick in.

The new boil.

So I finally decided to take the leap today. I changed my son Elliot's doctor! I am happy but yet I am nervous. What if this doctor doesn't understand MRSA just like his current doctor? What if she's rude and wont help us either? But I took a chance. His new doctor is a female and hopefully she will help us with this MRSA stuff once and for all! I am not going to hold my breath but I can dream.
We also finally got my husband a doctor. He doesn't know this yet but tomorrow I have a mind to take him to urgent care to get him some antibiotics because he really needs some. So I am letting him know when we wake up. I am tired of feeling like he's the on giving our son the MRSA boils. My husband is a walking MRSA boil and I don't know if it's because of his horrible skin or what. Ever since he started working he will get 10 or so bumps every two weeks. Thats 20 a month. Maybe even more. I am concerned for him as well because he doesn't have anyone monitoring it. So I am hoping he can finally see a doctor about it.
Anyway, as for my son..like my previous post said he got a boil on his leg, it looks like it's just forming and has been here since the morning. It's started getting pus tonight and hopefully it will open and drain tomorrow when I soak him in the bath. This is what it looks like.

Oh Boy.

Well MRSA is back on my little man. In a peculiar place too. He has it on his right thigh in the front.
We are using honey and Septra as well as prid to hopefully draw it to a head to drain.
This sucks.

Routine Routine.

So today I went to walmart and bought some more things for my son because on top of being sick the MRSA is back as you know. I purchased PRID as I have heard on MRSA forums that prid draws the boil to a head and helps it open so it can drain which is essentially what you want when you have a MRSA boil.

I noticed a few things today and beforehand about my son and his particular MRSA.
I feel 100% sure that his MRSA outbreaks are coming from his father, so his father is the root of the outbreaks and I've come to the conclusion that my husband needs a huge intervention from a doctor as soon as possible. I encourage my husband to bathe in bleach every other day and he does which has proven to slow down the appearence of more boils but for some reason (which I believe has to do with his open wounds from eczema) whenever he touches my sons bare skin my son seems to get a boil. So I have tried to minimize bare skin touching between son and my husband just enough so he doesn't feel alienated from his child. This week or next week we plan to finally see a doctor about husbands MRSA. It has been hectic because we moved and are still unpacking and now Elliot being sick is not helping at all.

Anyhoo here's how it goes for us.

This thing pops up, just looks like a ordinary bite but then starts getting a white head and bam! we have a hard disgusting MRSA boil. Also like to note that for some odd reason my child gets MRSA under the arms and on his buttocks and legs, but like I said I believe he gets them under his arms because thats where my husband picks him up. Same with his buttocks when husband changes diapers and husband also carries him with his hand around his legs.

This is my medicine drawer just for my son, MRSA and fever meds.

This is the manuka honey we are currently using.

I usually put it on a bandaid with a Q-Tip and put it over his bump, several times a day.

Now we will be trying the prid, bleach baths, warm compress and manuka honey as well as septra.

I honestly believe this came on the wings of his sickness that he is battling. Update later.

And when do I give up?

My son is sick. On July 1st he developed a fever and was just lethargic. Next day we took him to the doctors and he tells me he has an ear infection which I honestly don't believe. Now a day later there is a MRSA bump on his side. I don't know what to do or think or say anymore I just want to give up already. I am not sure what else I can do about it that I haven't already done. I really need some help.
